Tesla Model 3 Crash Test (passenger-side)

The 2025-2026 Tesla Model 3 has been recognized by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), earning a TOP SAFETY PICK award in the organization’s latest December 16, 2025 update. The rating signals that the Model 3 meets IIHS’s tougher 2025 benchmarks in several key areas, including strong performance in core crashworthiness evaluations like the small overlap front and side impact tests. IIHS also notes that the vehicle clears minimum thresholds for pedestrian crash prevention and that its headlights achieve at least an “acceptable” rating across all trims, a requirement that has become increasingly important in the award criteria. While the Model 3 lands on the IIHS recommended list, it falls short of the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation—an indicator that it doesn’t meet the “plus” award’s more demanding standard on the moderate overlap front test.
