The DENZA BAO 5 is the brand's very first SUV to reach Europe, and this video breaks down exactly what makes it one of the most exciting plug-in hybrid off-roaders of 2026. Making its European debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the DENZA BAO 5 pairs a premium, technology-driven design with the DMO plug-in hybrid system, the world's first hybrid architecture built specifically for off-road use.
Under the skin, the DENZA BAO 5 combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors, one on each axle, for a combined 544 hp and 760 Nm of torque. That's enough to launch this five-seat SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h. Thanks to its 31.8 kWh Blade battery, the BAO 5 delivers up to 90 km of pure electric range (WLTP) and an impressive 835 km of combined range on a full tank and a full charge, with CO2 emissions of only 90 g/km.
Off-road ability is where the DENZA BAO 5 really stands out. Three intelligent electronic locking differentials, a low-mounted ladder-frame chassis and the DiSus-P intelligent body control system on the Ultimate trim allow ground clearance to rise by up to 90 mm, pushing approach and departure angles to 39 and 34 degrees. Inside, the BAO 5 offers a genuinely premium cabin with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, a head-up display, Google built-in services, an 18-speaker Devialet audio system and even a heated and cooled centre-console storage box.
Safety comes as standard too, with a body made of 96 percent high-strength steel, 11 airbags and a full suite of driver-assistance features. Offered in Elegance and Ultimate trims, the DENZA BAO 5 opens for orders across Europe this summer, with first deliveries expected in the final quarter of the year.
