Voyah, the premium brand of the Dongfeng group, sent its Passion S electric SUV through a closed tunnel in Wuhan. A ramp at the entrance, another at the exit, and a full barrel roll across the ceiling. No special effects.
Physics left very little room for error. The car had to hit the ramp at 16 degrees and roughly 80 mph, with a window of just 2 to 3 mph before centrifugal force could no longer keep the wheels pinned to the wall. Too slow and the car falls away. Too fast and it misses its landing point.
The real story isn't the stunt, it's the car. Voyah insists the Passion S was strictly stock — full battery, no weight reduction, 637 hp and 564 lb-ft on an 800-volt platform. Putting more than 5,500 pounds on the ceiling proves a whole lot more than a prototype built for the occasion.
